One of the biggest compliments I get these days is when people tell me that I smell amazing. Victoria Secret’s Bombshell perfume used to be my favorite scent but I’ve done a complete 180 since being introduced to essential oils. Upon learning about all the toxic chemicals in my fragrances and personal care products (and how they attributed to my women’s issues) I figured I was much happier being healthy than a VS Angel. So I made the switch. I never thought I would love smelling like an earthy crunchy hippie. However, what I find is that people always respond positively to my “fragrance.” The words used to describe my scent are “fresh”, “natural”, “clean”, and “happy.” Who doesn’t want to smell happy? The true scientific facts are that essential oils help people feel relaxed, calm, and joyful. When essential oils are inhaled those molecules travel to the limbic system of the brain which is the center of our emotions and memory. That’s why aromatherapy is so beneficial.
So the next obvious question is, “what are you wearing?” I tell everyone that I use essential oils and then they ask, “which one?” I jokingly explain that I practically bathe in essential oils and it would probably take more time than what they have to explain my regimen. So my answer is, “several of them.” I have been experimenting with, researching, and faithfully using essential oils for going on 6 years now. Not a day goes by that I’m not inhaling them, putting them on my body and in my mouth, which is why I “smell” all the time…but in a good way, or so I think. But since many of you have asked me what my oily routine is I thought I would answer here. You ready? Here goes!
Wake Up! I stumble to my bathroom and put 4 drops of Progessence Plus in the palm of my hands and then rub the oil over my carotid artery and on the inside of my forearms. Then I rub 2 drops of EndoFlex over my neck/thyroid and on the inside of my right ankle. Both of these oils help support my endocrine system.
I then fill a large mason jar with water and 2 drops of Lemon oil. I drink this before I eat or drink anything else. After awhile I take a shot of NingXia Red with 3-4 drops each of DiGize (digestive system support) and Copaiba (overall health and wellness). During my “sneezy season” I love ingesting 1-2 drops each of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint in a tablespoon of raw local honey.
In the morning I always diffuse something. I love Thieves and Peppermint, Orange and Peppermint, Lime and Peppermint, Melrose, or Grapefruit, Lime, Tangerine and Peppermint. Peppermint helps me feel energized and ready for my day.
I use Melrose straight as my deodorant (5 drops for both underarms), a drop of Joy rubbed over my heart, and 1 drop of Abundance rubbed on my lower back. I am not as diligent as I’d like to be lately but I also like to rub 4 drops each of Lavender and Frankincense mixed with Young Living’s V-6 oil over my breasts to encourage breast health.
My homemade face wash contains Frankincense, my toner has Tea Tree, and my moisturizer is a combo of Tea Tree, Patchouli, Frankincense, Lavender, Myrrh, Rose, and Cypress (mixed with jojoba carrier oil).
Throughout the day I use an assortment in my diffusers. I also rub oils like Envision, Believe, Release, Field, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Stress Away, and Tea Tree in the palms of my hands and cup them over my nose and mouth while I breathe deeply.
At specific times of the month I may use other oils that support my “womanly time” like Deep Relief, Cypress, Helichrysum, PanAway, and Peppermint rubbed over my abdomen.
At night I follow the same routine with the Progessence Plus and Endoflex as well as my skin care regimen before going to bed. I put a drop of Thieves under my tongue for immune system support as well as add a drop of Thieves to my Thieves toothpaste. I have a diffuser on my nightstand with combinations like Cedarwood and Sacred Mountain, Thieves and Eucalyptus, Grapefruit and Cedarwood, and Frankincense and Lavender. If I’m feeling under the weather or like I need extra support I rub Thieves on the bottoms of my feet….Oregano and Clove if I’m feeling really icky.
I carry my favorite oils with me everywhere I go and never leave home without Thieves, Lavender, Peppermint, Purification, and Frankincense.
This is my daily oil routine, but I can easily add other oils to the mix depending on what’s going on with my emotions, health, and stress levels. It’s not an overnight thing but something I’ve played around with. At the beginning, I first made a list of the health issues I wanted to tackle and then I looked up the oils that could help and support those issues. Making small incremental changes will help you be more successful. Like adding a drop of Lemon oil to your glass of water is simple and easy to do. Diffusing your favorite scented oils is also a convenient way to incorporate them into your daily life. As you investigate the oils and learn what they can do for you you’ll want to make them more a part of your life. Go on Pinterest and Google, and look at resource guides. Follow other oilers on Instagram or Facebook to learn how they are using the oils. There is so much information out there.
I encourage everyone to start slow and do what works for you. Everyone’s body chemistry is different and what works for one might not work for another. As long as you follow the safety guidelines and recommended usage feel free to experiment and enjoy your oils…DAILY! Don’t be afraid to try them. It pains me to hear about people who get their kit and feel too intimidated to do anything with it. Your oils won’t work if you don’t use them. I look at my oils as an investment in my health. I prefer to spend my money on maintaining wellness rather than illness. I believe using essential oils is empowering. You should be the CEO of your own health, your own health advocate. Who else is going to care more about your body than you? Trust me when I tell you that it is worth the time and effort to begin your oily journey. It will slowly but surely become a normal and yet integral part of your life. I can’t imagine not having my oils now. I fear I would be lost without them. I believe you will feel the same way.
